1. Research for Inspiration: In this section Melissa discusses how that writing something familiar is often always the most inspiring. Doing everyday things such as watching TV, reading the newspaper, or just listening to conversations can help you find a great research topic. When looking for a topic that inspires you, you have much freedom. When Melissa talks about inspiration she considers that this can affect the “richness” and texture of a writer’s paper. When writing something inspirational writers often use their own personal experiences to help their research. She asks the question “If a stranger were to fin d your credit card bill, what would she know about you?” This question refers to what and how the author will decide to write the paper.
2. Research for Detail: In this particular section Melissa talks about how writing in detail is very important when writing any type of paper. She opens this section with a poem where she wrote about the different plants and flowers she sees on a nearby tree that was outside her office. She then discusses the questions she usually asks writers to add more detail, such as, “What Kind?” And “Can you be more specific here?” She then talks about how even the smallest details about something can become so important (Ex: date, name, color). She then gives two examples from other writers. She tells how writers should search out all the details, in the end you will use some and you will also leave some out. She states to always remember to leave yourself enough time to sort through details.
In my last Project, I would say I used research for inspiration. I am very passionate about my research topic. My research is based on a local nonprofit organization called Forward Paths, they help homeless youth and youth ageing out of foster care get back on their feet. My mother volunteered in this organization so I started to as well. Hearing the stories of how the program have changed so many people’s lives truly inspired me.
Flyer: Researched information about the organizations annual fundraising events and statistics on homeless youth in America
PowerPoint: Information about the organization, how to donate or volunteer, where the funds go and who you are helping
AD video: Looked up statistics on homeless youth in American, took real world scenarios and added them into my video.
