Armadillo Roadkill is dropping in a quotation without introducing it first. Readers are often enjoying a nice read when they run into an unexpected barrier (quote) that they were not expecting. One example of Armadillo Roadkill is…

Dogs are one of the world most popular pets. They are a lot of work but are also a lot of fun. You have to make sure they are properly fed, walked on a daily basis and always given plenty of attention. “German shepherd dogs get along well with children and other pets if raised with them, but in keeping with their guarding instincts, they tend to be leery of strangers” (hillspet.com). The benefits to getting a dog are…

Out of all the annoying ways people use sources, Armadillo Roadkill definitely annoys me the most. I can’t stand reading an article, when in the middle of a paragraph a random fact that doesn’t make sense or doesn’t have to do with the reading pops up. However, there is a way to fix this problem, you can signal that a quote is coming by stating who the quote came from and showing your readers how to look at it.

Rank of most annoying things from greatest to least:

Newspaper Editor: I Can’t Find the Stupid Link, Uncle Barry and his Encyclopedia of Useless Information, I Swear I Did Some Research, Am I in the Right Movie?, Armadillo Roadkill, and Dating Spider-man.

Popular Blogger: Uncle Barry and his Encyclopedia of Useless Information, Armadillo Roadkill, Dating Spider-man, Am I in the Right Movie?, I Swear I did some Research, and I Can’t Find the Stupid Link.

Another College Student: Armadillo Roadkill, Dating Spider-man, Uncle Barry and his Encyclopedia of Useless Information, I Swear I did Some Research, AM I in the Right Movie, and I Can’t Find the Stupid Link.

I changed my rankings for certain people because they are all reading and writing for different purposes. The newspaper Editor would probably be most annoyed by not having a connection with citations and work cited page. Newspaper articles must be very careful about things such as plagiarism so this annoyance would probably be the worst. A popular blogger would probably be most annoyed by Uncle Barry and his Encyclopedia of Useless Information because, lots of back to back quotes would bore the reader and the readers is what makes the blog successful. Another college student would probably be most annoyed by Armadillo roadkill, college students have to read a lot of different information and articles daily, so if they are reading they don’t want to be stopped by an unnecessary quote.
