At the moment Layli says “And I was personally really surprised that I hadn’t heard about it before. Part of the reason I hadn’t was because it was so quiet. And there really was not a lot of risk taken in how it was delivered,” she was referring to the congressional apology to Native Americans in 2009. It is important that she hadn’t heard about it before because it shows how little effort the federal government is contributing to helping and caring for Native Americans and their culture. The delivery of the apology was almost not even a delivery and the language was so careful, it read almost like a poem. It makes the apology seem unimportant.

Layli Long Soldier is referring to what was written in the congressional apology letter to the Native American people. She is pointing out how carefully written the document was. She points to this specific phrasing of “the arrival of Europeans opened a new chapter for Native People” because the way this was written leaves out the massive genocide of Native Americans, or how much the Europeans hurt the Native Americans. It is so important about the details of the phrasing because, the way they phrased things, gives the reader a different idea than what actually happened. For example, instead of writing things like the genocide they phrased them as “conflicts” or “both took innocent lives”

Specificity is so important in this podcast because it makes it easy for the listeners to follow and know her opinion. Specificity is important in writing because it makes the writer more knowledgeable and persuasive.

The interview structure starts off very basic and broad but quickly narrows down the questions to be more and more specific. The tone is aggregative and informative. I can take away the way the interviewer conducted the interview. She researched a lot of information on the subject then used her knowledge to be more specific with her interview questions and have the knowledge to comment back.
