The section of Brainstorm Topic Ideas: Read, Talk, Sketch, Enjoy, discusses the best way to get started on finding a topic that is right for each individual writing. When looking for a writing topic you should do research and online readings. However, you should limit yourself to searching through a few sources, for example CNN or scholar.google.com for more reliable sources. Talking to people and discussing your ideas and topics with your peers can help you find out more about your topic and how others would feel about it. Next make a list about things you care about the most important things to you such as things that you are passionate about or things that make you curious. You can also free write, if you know a little bit about your topic, get everything on paper and write down all your thoughts then polish it later. Last create a Mind map. These helps you view your early ideas about the topic. Write your idea or topic in the middle of the paper and as you come up with details, write them down around the main topic and connect them with lines.

After reading this section, I feel the best way for me personally to choose a topic is by talking to others. I really enjoy having others feedback and sometimes they think of ideas and further details within my topic, I wouldn’t have thought about otherwise. I am able to avoid choosing a topic that I already know a lot about by choosing a topic that I am curious in that is maybe something I wouldn’t have fully pursued otherwise. My take away from this section would be, don’t limit yourself to one way of choosing a topic or research question. All four are effective and each person may prefer one over the other.

I have not chosen a community to work in quite yet. I have been looking into the community within foster care programs and organizations designed to help children that are in or have been in foster care. I have a few friends and family members who were placed into foster care for a variety of different reasons and I know how much these types of organizations helped them all with both emotional and financial support. However, I have not chosen one yet.
